How to distinguish cashew nuts
Cashew Classification by Size
W-180: 355 - 395 nuts per kg and 161 – 180 nuts per pound
W-180 is the largest and most expensive cashew nut, often called the “King of Cashews” because of its superior size. Its price reflects its value and quality.
W-210: 440 - 465 nuts per kg and 200 – 210 nuts per pound
Right after the “King of Cashews” is the W-210, also known as Jumbo cashews. The price of W-210 is similar to W-180, meaning it is still in the premium range.
W-240: 485 - 530 nuts per kg and 220 – 240 nuts per pound
W-240 is a standard-sized cashew. Its price is mid-range, making it reasonable in both cost and quality.
W-320: 660 - 705 nuts per kg and 300 – 320 nuts per pound
W-320 is the most widely sold and distributed cashew nut in the world. It is popular because of its affordable price and medium size.
W-450: 880 - 990 nuts per kg and 400 – 450 nuts per pound
W-450 cashews are easily recognized for their small size. They have one of the lowest prices, making them popular in the budget-friendly whole cashew segment.

Cashew Classification by Shape
Whole (W): Whole cashews are classified by their intact, kidney-like shape, which is characteristic of cashews. They must not be broken more than 1/8 of their size. This type is labeled as W.

Splits (S): Splits are cashews that have been split lengthwise and are not broken more than 1/8 of their size. This type is labeled as S.
Pieces: These are smaller broken cashew pieces, classified into various grades based on size, in descending order:
- Large Pieces (LWP, SP, SPS, etc.): Large broken pieces that do not pass through a 4.75 mm sieve.
- Small Pieces (SWP, SSP, DSP, etc.): Smaller pieces that pass through a 4.75 mm sieve but not through a 2.8 mm sieve.
- Baby Bits (BB, G1, G2, G3): The smallest pieces that pass through a 2.8 mm sieve but not through a 1.7 mm sieve.
- Fine Grains (X): Extremely fine cashew pieces.
- Fines (FE): The finest cashew pieces.
- Mixed Pieces (P1M, P2M, P3M): A mix of various broken pieces.
